Whole-body hyperthermia for cancer

Whole-body hyperthermia for cancer

Therapeutic heat as targeted support in cancer therapy

Whole-body hyperthermia is an established and scientifically proven method of complementary oncology. It involves raising the body temperature to between 38.5 °C and 40.5 °C in a controlled manner – under medical supervision and using state-of-the-art technology. Patients lie in a specially developed heated bed in which water-cooled infrared lamps and regulated humidity ensure even and safe heating.

Principle of action of whole-body hyperthermia

The aim is the targeted overheating of tumor tissue, while healthy tissue is largely spared. It has been known since the 1970s that temperatures above 39.5 °C can inhibit the growth of tumor cells or destroy them directly.

The effect is based on several mechanisms:

  • Oxygen and nutrient deficiency in the tumor cells
  • Acidification of the cell environment, which triggers cell death (apoptosis)
  • Activation of the immune system by heat shock proteins (HSP), which make cancer cells “visible”
  • Enhancing the effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy

Strengthening the immune system through heat shock proteins

When exposed to heat, tumour cells change their surface: they form heat shock proteins (HSP), special proteins that make them recognizable to the immune system. This allows the body’s own immune cells to be specifically activated to fight the tumor cells – an effect that healthy cells do not exhibit.

Synergy with other cancer therapies

Whole-body hyperthermia can significantly increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Numerous clinical experiences and scientific studies show that previously less effective treatments are significantly more successful in combination with hyperthermia – thanks to improved blood circulation, increased cell sensitivity and optimized drug transport.

Healing atmosphere during whole-body hyperthermia

Whole-body hyperthermia in our clinic is not just a medical treatment – it is embedded in a protected, soothing and healing environment that appeals to body and soul in equal measure.

Treatment procedure

After a preparation phase of around 30 minutes, the actual fever therapy begins, which lasts around two and a half hours. During this time, the body temperature is increased in a targeted manner in order to develop the therapeutic effect on the cancer cells.

Our patients are medically monitored, accompanied and cared for at all times. We also serve strengthening Ayurvedic teas and a natural, energizing drink to gently stabilize the body.

Relaxation for body and mind

Our newly designed treatment rooms specifically promote innerbalance:

  • Soft shades
  • Dimmed light
  • Peace and security

This calming atmosphere complements the medical effect of hyperthermia and supports the healing process.

Aftercare and recovery

The warming phase is followed by controlled cooling in a quiet environment. Patients are given additional oxygen to stabilize them and can recover through rest, sleep or meditation.

Our team is also on hand to provide support after treatment – with a telephone consultation service for individual queries or aftercare.

Therapeutic areas of application

Whole-body hyperthermia has proved particularly effective for

  • Inoperable tumors
  • Metastatic tumors
  • Recurrent tumors (recurring tumor types)
  • However, the therapy also shows very good results with localized tumours
