Understanding the body's natural defenses
At IASO, we view the immune system as the cornerstone of health – and the first line of defense in both the prevention and treatment of cancer.
A strong, balanced immune system protects the body from infection, regulates inflammation and identifies abnormal cells before they can grow into tumors.
When this system is weakened due to chronic stress, poor diet, environmental toxins or aggressive treatments, the body’s natural defenses are compromised, allowing cancer cells to multiply unchecked.
This is why the restoration and retraining of the immune system is one of the basic principles of our integrative approach to oncology.

A network, not an organ
Unlike other systems in the body, the immune system is not confined to one place – it is everywhere.
It is present in the bone marrow (where immune cells are created), the thymus (where T cells mature), the intestines (where almost 70% of immune activity takes place) and organs such as the spleen and lymph nodes, which constantly filter blood and lymph fluid.
Each component has a unique role – producing immune cells, filtering harmful substances and identifying intruders.
Together they form a highly intelligent defense network that serves to protect the biological “terrain” – the internal environment in which health and disease develop.
The hidden strategy of cancer
Cancer cells are not foreign invaders, but arise in the body itself.
Over time, they can learn to evade the immune system or even manipulate it to ensure their own survival.
They do this by
- release substances that suppress immune activity
- cause chronic inflammation that depletes immune cells
- Change their “surface identity” to become invisible to immune surveillance
- recruit regulatory T cells that actually protect the tumor from attack
At IASO, we refer to this as dysfunctional immune dialogue – when the immune system is talking but the cancer has learned to change the conversation.
Reeducating the immune system
Our goal is not to declare war on the body, but to restore biological harmony. Instead of weakening the immune system through toxic interventions, IASO focuses on reprogramming it to recognize and eliminate cancer cells while maintaining the body’s vitality.
This process involves strengthening the “terrain” – the biological environment that determines whether cancer can grow or not.
Through advanced immunotherapies, hyperthermia, oxygenation, nutritional and cellular support and stress modulation, we help the body to regain its natural ability to heal itself.
IASO's integrative approach to restoring the immune system
Our network of IASO-accredited clinics combines the best of modern science and natural medicine.
Therapies that target immunomodulation include:
- Dendritic cell therapy – Reactivation of the immune recognition of cancer cells
- Whole-body and local hyperthermia – Heating of the body or the tumor environment to strengthen the immune response
- Oxygen and photodynamic therapies – Improvement of cell metabolism and immune communication
- Optimization of the microbiome and nutrients – Restoration of the gut-immune axis
- Mind-body interventions – reduction of stress-related immunosuppression
Together, these measures result in a personalized, multi-layered program that is designed for maximum effect with minimum strain.
From defense to healing
Think of the immune system as a fence and a gardener.
It protects the body from invaders while maintaining internal balance.
When the fence is damaged – by chronic inflammation, toxins or chemotherapy – or when the gardener is exhausted, weeds (cancer cells) can take over.
The solution is not further destruction, but nurturing, restoration and intelligent guidance.
At IASO, we believe that by rebuilding immune intelligence, the body can once again become the powerful healer it was originally designed to be.
Most important finding
Curing cancer starts with strengthening the system that is supposed to prevent it.
IASO’s integrative oncology programs aim to rebalance the immune system, restore cellular communication and empower the body to fight disease naturally and intelligently – with precision, purpose and compassion.
